2014 has been an exciting year for software teams here at Atlassian. During the Jira keynote at Atlassian Summit 2014, we highlighted all of the changes and improvements (both past and present) that our teams are most excited about. In case you missed it, here is a recap of those highlights from what was our biggest and best Summit yet!
Introducing Jira Portfolio
We could not be more thrilled to announce Jira Portfolio. Jira Portfolio is a new product from Atlassian that helps organizations connect strategy to development reality. Scaling agile requires insight into all areas of the business and responding to market changes quickly and strategically. Because development teams already have deep context inside of Jira, we designed Jira Portfolio to give organizations a clear way to ensure strategic investments remain on target. Jira Portfolio is available today for Jira Server–coming soon for Jira Cloud and Data Center.
Software Teams: Plan smarter
Agile requires teams to have a smarter and more flexible planning process as the team responds to change through each iterative cycle. The latest releases of Jira Agile keep planning at the pace of innovation. Teams can quickly create issues as they arise during planning sessions. Product owners can also extend Jira Agile and customize agile cards in plan and work mode. And agile teams can more effectively use specialist skill sets by pre-assigning work to select team members.
Software Teams: Deliver faster
As teams work in tighter integration cycles, visibility across the organization becomes critically important. Jira 6.2 and 6.3 add more transparent ways to view and track development without ever leaving your Jira instance. The all new development panel consolidates the artifacts of development in a single, easy to view experience.
What’s more, Jira frees the development team to focus fully on development. Our latest integration with Stash, Bitbucket, and Fisheye automatically updates issue status based on common developer actions. For example, when a developer creates a pull request on an issue branch, Jira can automatically transition that issue to an “In Review” state. Take a look and see how Jira keeps pace with the development team.
Sneak Peak: Ensure true release readiness
Releasing software is the culmination of the entire team’s effort. It’s a critical event–and releasing the wrong thing can be costly. Jira gives new insight into each release with deeper integrations with our developer tools. Jira ensures each release embodies good development practices, such as:
- All pull requests in a release have been reviewed
- Each pull request has been merged appropriately
- All issues have been successfully built

Scale across your organization
We re-branded the names of our deployment options this year, and introduced a new one:
- Our download version of Jira that you can manage yourself is now called Jira Server.
- Jira OnDemand, our hosted offering, is now called Jira Cloud.
- And we introduced a new offering for enterprise customers, Jira Data Center
Jira Data Center allows our largest customers to scale Jira horizontally as well as ensure high availability across multiple Jira instances. We’ve also introduced new support options and engagement opportunities for Atlassian’s enterprise customers.
