Jira Goes to “11” (New Jira 3.11)
Atlassian Jira 3.11 was shipped yesterday and includes over 70 improvements and bug fixes, including new project management and time tracking capabilities. Sub-tasks have received a good deal of attention in this latest release as users can now view sub-task time tracking and get aggregate data about sub-tasks. You can learn about all the new […]
Tomorrow: Wiki Wednesday Stuttgart
I got a nice note from Martin Koser after my post last week about travelling in Europe – Martin invited me to the Wiki Wednesday Stuttgart that takes place tomorrow, 26 September, in Stuttgart, Germany. I won’t be able to go, but if you’re in the area, I think it will be a great gathering […]
Will the wiki replace and make obsolete other tools?
I got asked this question during a presentation earlier this week. It’s a simple question with a complicated answer — here’s why: Historically, whenever any new enterprise tool has appeared on the landscape, its proponents have told everyone that it was the next big thing (think KM systems) and would obsolete everything else so they […]
T-shirts 2.0 part deux
The Cenqua acquisition could not be said to be complete without t-shirts. At last, here they are: the new Clover, Fisheye, and Crucible shirts. We sent them to the printers last week. Customers that purchased enterprise editions of these products will be receiving theirs very soon.
Developer blog re-design
Today we’ve completed an exciting new redesign of this blog. With a cleaner layout, this should make it a bit easier to read on the web, and provide a better fit for code samples and screenshots. We hope you like it. Credit for the design goes to Steve Russell and Zach Davis, a pan-Pacific collaboration […]
New Jira Plugin: GreenHopper, for Agile Teams
One of the recurring religious debates in the agile community is paper cards vs. issue-tracking. One of our very own developers, Charles Miller, is a big fan of using paper cards for planning, although he is quick to note that the Confluence team uses cards in addition to Jira, not in favour of. And I’ll […]
Bill Ives writes about Wiki Best Practices for Enterprise 2.0
Over on the FastForward Blog, Bill Ives writes about some excellent ways to introduce wikis in organizations. He focuses on events and meetings – specifically holding asynchronous meetings on the wiki: “You should also encourage participants to sign their contributions, In a live meeting this is obviously part of the give and take. People need […]
Releases, releases, releases …
Since coming on board last month, the Cenqua team has been flat out like a lizard drinking. We’ve updated Fisheye and Crucible, revamped the Fisheye plugin for Jira, and finally let Clover 2 beta loose on the world.
Fear of “looking stupid” or “doing something wrong” on the wiki
Here’s another one from my meetings this week: a couple of people asked me about how to contribute to a wiki without looking stupid. This is a question I get quite often when meeting with organizations to talk wiki adoption. Some people will say that the biggest obstacle keeping them from participating on the wiki […]
School of Shaolin: Blogging at Atlassian
Master Po: [after easily defeating the boy in combat] Ha, ha, never assume because a man has no eyes he cannot see. Close your eyes. What do you hear? Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds. Master Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat? Young Caine: No. Master Po: Do you hear […]
Atlassian "ShipIt Day" VI
Here at Atlassian we have just finished up our sixth edition of “ShipIt Day”. What is it? For those who don’t know, “ShipIt Day” is Atlassian’s irregular answer to Google 20% time: time set aside for developers to work on whatever they want with a skew towards our products. We tend to run “ShipIt” with […]
Wikipedia is not the real world
I love Wikipedia. Not due to its contents, but due to the way it helps me explain my work. You see, whenever I tell people that I work for a company that makes a wiki, I only get a blank stare in return. But when I explain that it’s like Wikipedia, their eyes light […]
Are contributions on your wiki dominated by one group?
At one of my visits this week, I was asked about what to do when your wiki has got too many contributions or comments from one group. How can you balance that by getting other groups to contribute as well? Email and invite them to comment. Explain the case – just say “Hey, most of […]
What 3 Dev Tools Do You Rely on Most?
Check out this post discussing the requirements and solution one developer has found. It’s hard not to be pleased to see that Jira has been flexible enough to cover so many bases. Suresh Krishna writes: Few members felt that i was overusing Jira, but at the end of the day i am happy that i […]
A Londoner, A Frenchman, A German: Yes, I’m all three this week
The last one is technically true, as I’m part German by family heritage. But on to more serious things: I’m in London this week, Germany on Thursday, and France next week to meet with people deploying and working to grow enterprise wiki use in their organizations, see how they’re doing so, the issues they face, […]
