Rovo Chat brings AI-powered insights directly into Bitbucket. Speed up code reviews, onboard to new code, and get context from Jira, Confluence, and your connected apps, all without leaving your workflow.

We’re excited to announce that we are starting a phased rollout of Rovo Chat in Bitbucket Cloud today! It will be available to 100% of users by September 30th, 2025. To check if it’s available on your account, look for the Rovo Chat button in your top navigation.

Rovo is Atlassian’s AI-powered teammate that helps you find what matters, learn faster, and take action right in your workflow. Powered by Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph, Rovo connects your data across the Atlassian platform and 50+ apps such as Figma, Sentry, and Dropbox.

Why is this a big deal? In our 2025 State of Developer Experience, over 50% of developers reported losing more than 10 hours each week searching for information, onboarding to new code, or toggling between apps. All that context-switching is a huge productivity drain.

With Rovo Chat, when you’re deep in the code, you don’t have to pause to chase down a design file, scroll through a Confluence page, or toggle between endless tabs. Just ask Rovo and you’ll get the answer you need, in-context, right where you’re working. This isn’t about adding yet another tool to your workflow. It’s about giving you an always-available teammate who cuts through the noise so you can focus on building.

This is a beta release. We’re just getting started, and your input can help us make this even better. Try it out and share your feedback.

How Atlassian developers are using Rovo Chat

Our own developers have been using Rovo Chat, and they have quickly made it part of their daily workflow. Here are some of the ways our engineers are putting Rovo Chat to work:

Faster PR reviews

Our engineers used to spend too much time digging through pull requests and comment threads just to get up to speed. Now, with simple prompts like “Summarize the code changes in this pull request” or “Summarize the comments on this PR,” they’re cutting review times and getting clearer, more actionable feedback, right when they need it. It’s made a real difference in how quickly teams can collaborate and move work forward.

Onboard to new repos

When new projects are assigned, developers spend a lot of time piecing together what a repo or file actually does. Now, when starting work on unfamiliar code, you can ask Rovo questions like “What’s the purpose of this repository?” or “What are the key APIs and dependencies in this file?” and get the context you need to hit the ground running.

Get project context from Jira & Confluence

Our developers used to hate losing time hunting for background information: Which Jira issue is tied to this code change? Where’s that design file the team mentioned? Is there a Confluence page with more context?

With Rovo Chat, they no longer go on scavenger hunts. They just ask: “Show me the project page for the mobile redesign work” or “Where’s the design file for JIRA-555?” and Rovo Chat surfaces what they need without breaking the flow.

Instant documentation summaries

Our devs spent a lot of time staring at a massive Confluence page, trying to find the key takeaways. Now, they ask Rovo to give them a summary of the page so they can quickly move forward.

Understand code

Another common occurrence was that developers spent a lot of time jumping between files to figure out what a certain function does. Now, whenever our developers encounter unfamiliar code, they simply ask Rovo to explain it. Rovo gives them instant clarity and lets them get back to building.

They also ask general coding questions, such as, “What does getByLabelText do?” so they don’t have to switch tabs to Google it.

Team insights at a glance

With so many projects in flight, our engineering managers found it tough to keep track of all the pull requests their teams were opening and reviewing. Now, with Rovo, managers can easily find PRs that their team is working on and stay on top of progress.

How to get started

Rovo Chat is available on Bitbucket Standard and Premium plans. To unlock AI features in Bitbucket, your workspace admin just needs to complete two quick steps:

  1. Workspace admin
    1. Connect your Bitbucket workspace to Jira. If your Bitbucket workspace is already connected to Jira, you’re all set for this step.
    2. Enable AI in Jira and Bitbucket. This allows Rovo to start indexing your data. Please note, indexing may take 24–48 hours.
  2. You: Click the Rovo Chat button at the top right corner of your Bitbucket screen.

What data is currently indexed?

Rovo Chat currently indexes:

  • Pull requests and repositories in Bitbucket
  • Code and diffs that are open on your screen.
  • All your connected Rovo data sources, including Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and any of the 50+ apps we support (e.g., Figma, Sentry, Dropbox)

To understand how Atlassian and Rovo Chat protect your data, read our privacy and permissions policies.

What’s coming next?

Based on your and others’ feedback, we’re working hard towards a GA release in the near future, where Rovo Chat will be even more powerful. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s on the way:

  • Full code context: Rovo Chat will soon index your entire codebase so you can get contextual insights from across your organization. e.g. has another team built a function that you can reuse.
  • CI/CD insights: Ask questions about your builds and troubleshoot issues directly in Rovo Chat without scrolling through logs.
